This piece shows the typical practice on ranches of rotating cattle from one pasture to another so that the grass can be restored to a healthy state and become ready for grazing in the future. These are Hereford breed cattle, known for their red bodies and white faces. My father-in-law Dale Lukens is one of the cowboys shown. Dale worked cattle on horseback for many years in and around Medicine Lodge, KS and became one of my favorite subjects.
